The School of Engineering and Information Technology (SEIT) offers a flexible, friendly working environment that is well-resourced and delivers research-informed education as part of its accredited, globally recognised engineering and computing degrees to its undergraduate students. The School offers programs in electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and civil engineering as well as in aviation, information technology and cyber security to graduates and professionals who will be Australia’s future technology decision-makers.
As a key member of the research team on the ARC Discovery Project Evolutionary computation for expensive bilevel multiobjective problems, the Research Associate will conduct fundamental research into modelling, solving, benchmarking and analyzing the problems involving hierarchical and conflicting performance objectives.
About the Role:
Role: Research Associate in Evolutionary Computation/Design Optimization
Salary: Academic Level A $99,325 – $106,237 plus 17% Superannuation
Term: Full-time, Fixed Term appointment for 2 years
About the Successful Applicants
To be successful in this role you will need:
A PhD degree in the field of Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
A demonstrated ability to conduct internationally competitive research in the field of evolutionary computation/computational intelligence/design optimization, evidenced through publications in prominent journals/conferences or other novel outputs.
Analytical skills and understanding of relevant mathematical and computational tools and techniques for in-depth investigation of research problems.
A demonstrated ability to think about challenging research problems independently, systematically, and critically, and pursue novel approaches to address them.
Excellent programming skills in at least one of the key platforms MATLAB/Python/C/C++ etc. Ability to effectively adapt to other platforms where necessitated by research scope (e.g. benchmarking with other existing codes).
Excellent communication and technical writing skills appropriate for high-quality research outcomes including academic publications, presentations, and effective collaboration with the researchers internal and external to UNSW.
